Jesus said,

I am the good shepherd. The Good-Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

John 10:11

If we really realised the great and deep love of Jesus for us, His sheep, we would be different people. If He has done the absolute ultimate in laying down His life for us, is there anything greater than this? So, all other things we might ask of Him, need of Him, are very much less. So, if these things we ask, and need are going to bless us, and help us, then He will surely do it. And when He says “No”, it is for our greater good.

David, when writing Psalm 23 had a deep insight into this:

The Lord’s my Shepherd, I lack nothing.

Psalm 23:1

The more we know about how much a shepherd like David cared for his sheep, the more we will appreciate how much the Lord cares for us. When David had volunteered to go and fight Goliath, King Saul was reluctant to let him go as he was too young and inexperienced. David states his case:

But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it … this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them.”

1 Samuel 17:34-35

David was willing to risk his own life for the sheep. Jesus said He is the Good Shepherd who not only risked His life for the sheep but laid His life down for the sheep. We are the sheep who have sinned and gone astray and the only way we can get back is through Jesus and all that He has done for us. So let us not worry, or fret, or fear, about the future, our Good-Shepherd has it all in hand, Amen.

Let’s Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank you that You are our Good-Shepherd, and that You love and care for us so much. Thank you that in all situations You go before us and make a way for us to walk safely, and to be abundantly blessed with You living in our lives by Your Holy Spirit. Lord that we might love and care for others in the same way that You do for us, in Your Name and for Your glory, Amen.
