31 December 2023

Welcome

“A very blessed New Year to you all in Jesus Christ, Amen!”

“The dynamite exploded, removing the dirt and revealing the treasure. The Holy Spirit removes the sin in our lives and deposits the glory and goodness of Christ, so that we are changed more and more into His likeness and glory (see 2 Cor 3:18).”

Word

When will Jesus Return?

As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.

Rom. 11:28-29.

We are still looking at the main point that before Jesus returns, “All Israel will be saved.” In the verses above it almost seems to be saying that Israel won’t be saved in the same way as the Gentiles, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ of which they are enemies, but based on the fact that they are the elect of God with whom they have a covenant relationship based on their faithfulness to the law. If this was the case Paul would be contradicting himself, for he has clearly and repeatedly made the point in this epistle, and all the other epistles he has written, that it is through the gospel that people, both Jews and Gentiles, are saved, e.g., the key text of the whole epistle,

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentiles.

Romans 1:16

And see also:

for, ‘Everyone [in the context refers to both Jews and Gentiles] who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Romans 10:13

It is by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, that all have been saved, are being saved, and will be saved, period. In a nutshell Israel were trying to get saved by their own righteousness, rather than God’s,

Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire, and prayer, to God for the Israelites, is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Rom. 10:1-4

This is why they are the enemies of the cross and the crucified Saviour, Messiah. But that is where everyone was at one time, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely through faith in Christ Jesus. This is the place that all Jews will come to as they are saved through faith in Messiah, Christ Jesus their Lord and ours, for God’s gifts and calling are “irrevocable”, meaning “without regret”, Amen.

Quote of the week

“Salvation comes through a cross and a crucified Christ.”

Andrew Murray

Verse of the week

Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

2 Tim. 2:10

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, that all Your people, Israel, might be saved to usher in the coming again of Your Son. Father, pour out Your Spirit upon them that there might be reconciliation between Jews and Gentiles once more, in and through Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.
