24 December 2023

Welcome

“A very blessed Christmas and New Year to you all in Jesus Christ, Amen!”

“The magnet attracts the small pieces of metal. Jesus attracted the crowds as He preached, healed, and delivered people . He attracted us and gave us new life as we trusted in Him. He is the way, the truth and the life.”

Word

When will Jesus Return?

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; He will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them  I take away their sins.”

Rom. 11:25-27

The main point that we will be making in the next three weeks is that:

“God will save a significant number of Jews at the time of Christ’s return.”

Douglas Moo

The apostle Paul refers to this as a mystery,

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters.

Rom. 11:25

Paul is fond of this word ‘mystery’ (e.g., Eph. 1:9; 3:3, 4, 9; 6:19; 1 Tim. 3:9, 16) and uses it here to refer to something that has been previously hidden but has now been revealed. Here we see that the mystery is:

(a) Israel has experienced a hardening in part

(b) This will continue until the full number of Gentiles has come in, and

(c) All Israel will then be saved.

This is quite remarkable teaching. Yes the Old Testament prophesies that Gentiles and Jews will worship God together, e.g.,

Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people.

Deut. 32:43 [cf. Rom. 15:10]

Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and sing praises to Your name.

2 Sam. 22:50 and Psalm 18:49 [cf. Rom. 15:9]

Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Extol Him, all you peoples!

Psalm. 117:1 [cf. Rom. 15:11]

And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, and His resting place shall be glorious.

Isaiah 11:10

But the fact that all Israel will not be saved until the full number of Gentiles has come in is new revelation. And all this must take place before Jesus returns. But we know, based on the happenings of the Day of Pentecost and following that this can take place suddenly, and happen very quickly, so again, the imminency of the second-coming is not affected, Amen!

Quote of the week

The apostolic church thought more about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ than about death and heaven. The early Christians were looking, not for a cleft in the ground called a grave but for a cleavage in the sky called Glory.”

Alexander MacLaren

Verse of the week

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

2 Timothy 3:1-5

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, looking at world events, Jews and Gentiles look far away from being saved and reconciled as one in You, but such were we, ourselves, at one time. So Father, as You continue to do so throughout this world we live in, bring about the impossible in this situation, by the power of Your Spirit in and through Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.
