Please Read: Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd.

Psalm 23:1

Written by David:

He chose David His servant and took him from the sheep pens; from tending the sheep He brought him to be the shepherd of His people … of Israel His inheritance.

Ps. 78:70-71

The psalm begins with one of the most beautiful expressions of trust in God. Note the emphasis on my Shepherd” meaning the truths of this Psalm are for those who confess that the Lord is my Shepherd, those who have put their faith in Him. Jesus claimed that He was the Good Shepherd and backed this up by laying down His life for us all,

I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

John 10:11

Hence the Psalmist spoke prophetically,

The Lord is my Shepherd, I will not be in need.

Ps. 23:1 NASB

Our Good Shepherd meets all our needs,

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?

Romans 8:31-32

But we have to do our bit:

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Malachi 3:10

He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters

The Good Shepherd truly cares for the flock, He wants the very best for them, unlike the shepherds who only took care of themselves (cf. Ezekiel 34:1-16).

He restores my soul

As we spend time in His Presence, we will be refreshed,

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

As we come to Jesus when we are weary and heavy laden He promises us rest (Matt. 11:28-30).

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake

He guides me in all ways for His glory and praise and our blessing, Amen.

Quote of the week

“His saving work is sufficient for all, but is effective only for those who actually believe in Him.”

William MacDonald

Verse of the week

When He has brought out all His own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.

John 10:4

Let’s Pray

Our Gracious, Good, and Loving Shepherd thank You for Your care for us, such that we lack nothing. Thank You for the Streams of Living Water, Your Holy Spirit, in Jesus Christ, Amen.
