Please read: Philippians 2:1-11

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.

Phil. 2:5

Humility: Jesus’ greatest example of humility was His total dependence on His heavenly Father, whilst here on earth,

Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what he sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”

John 5:19

The essence of original sin was Adam and Eve acting independently of God, doing their own thing as instigated by the devil Himself. Jesus, at every step reversed this by doing the will of His Father in heaven, such is what filled His mind.

Jesus grew up the son of a carpenter and learned his father’s trade. He would have watched everything his father did as a carpenter, and listened to all his father taught Him. This was also how He related to His heavenly Father, an ongoing communion in His heart and mind. We see this supremely in His prayer in Gethsemane:

Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Matt. 26:39

This is in line with:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own insight or understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

The mind is so important in our response to God or lack of response,

This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand“. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”

Matt. 13:13-14:

Matthew substituted mind for the word strength in the first and greatest commandment,

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Deut. 6:5

cf.

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Matt. 22:37

Mark and Luke add it to the original text, Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27 all of them emphasising what Jesus emphasised that the right use of the mind was very important in our relationship and worship of God.

Quote of the week

“Before one can walk as Christ walked, and talk as He talked; one must first begin to think as Christ thought”

A. A. Allen

Verse of the week

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:20-24

Let’s Pray

Lord heavenly Father, help us to have the mind of Christ so that this will be evident in in all we do, say, and think, in Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.
